At the weekend I told you about the Langdon Plotlands series that I was hoping to complete on Sunday and while I didnt make it round to all 14 caches (Lord Summerisle's First Cache (GC2436M) was disabled at the time), the ones I did manage were brilliant.
As soon as we entered the car park, I knew we wasnt going to complete the series. Due to other commitments we didnt arrive until 14:30 and the car park closed 17:00, probably doable if you speed round, but I like to take my time with these things!
So we set off in search of the first cache, roughly .2 of a mile from the car park with an optimistic view on the afternoon ahead but on arrival at the first GZ, we realised that things may not be as straight forward as we had hoped.
All I can say is that the cache containers throughout this whole series were clever and imaginative. We had logs, frogs, monkeys, plant pots and a cleverly made cache that I can only describe as looking like a firework all of which kept us guessing once we had arrived in the vicinity of each cache. Needless to say, our thinking caps were on and we managed to locate the first cache after being distracted by a very suspect pile of logs...
So onto the next cache. This one was a simple micro which was easy enough to find even though the coords we about 30ft out! While searching for this one there was a couple of people loitering who we believe may have been fellow Cachers. One possibly even had a Signal the Frog back pack but not wanting to draw attention to ourselves, we calmly signed the log and quick stepped onto the next cache.
Now this next cache was unfortunately a DNF. 2 guys were using strimmers in close proximity to the cache and seeing as the Geodog is petrified of strimmers, I opted to keep the dog calm while the brother in law went in search for the cache. 10-15 minutes laters he exits empty handed, and I decided it was best to move on as the dog was getting slightly agitated.(We would later learn after finding a camo'd cache that he had looked right at it but didnt think much of it so ignored it)
Unfortunately I can't really tell you much about the next few caches as it would involve giving out too much info about them. What I can tell you though is that we found them and they were worth it!
All in all I think we found about 8 caches all of which were brilliant. It ended up taking us in a nice circular route ending up back at the car park & visitor centre. Happily we have got to come back soon to find the cache that was ignored and the remaining caches that we didnt have time to get before the car park closed.
Roll on the weekend!!!
